Children living in a wooden cart rested in a street in Manila on Wednesday. The Philippine government said it would give money directly to poor families in an effort to fight a sharp rise in the number of Filipinos enduring severe hunger.

But we can give them fish as a dole out for the meantime, but simultaneously, we have to give them the ways to fish for food so that they become self sufficient.

Ang problema sa atin, minsan may dependency culture tayo, hanggang may mahihingian ng tulong hindi na kikilos iyan.

I don’t think money is not the best solution the government could give to these unprivileged people. What they need is beyond the things that money can buy. They need attention and care. How can money buy them happiness and elevate them in their current physiological level? Money is a transitory step in addressing the problem.
